As a Scot, and as a trained actor, Mark has an excellent reputation as a performer at Burns Suppers around the world, tailoring his Immortal Memory’s or Toasts to the Lassies to each occasion. Fully acquainted with the “classics”, he also likes to introduce audiences to some of Burns’s lesser known works.
His vivid and exciting rendition of Tam O’Shanter is often described by audiences as ‘outstanding” and “the best we’ve ever seen” . His native grasp of the Scots tongue and his in–depth understanding of the text allows him to bring out the full flavour of one of the world’s finest narrative poems.
For the 200th anniversary of Robert Burns’s death, he wrote and produced the highly acclaimed musical drama, “Burns, A Dram and the Truth” for BBC Radio 2.
Outwith the Burns Supper season, a keen sense of the ridiculous, a natural ability as a story–teller and 25 years of experience in the Broadcast industry has left him with a fund of anecdotes and stories which he uses to great effect as an after–dinner speaker.
Finally Mark’s years of experience presenting programmes on the environment, Scottish history and culture, science and faith has left him unusually well-placed to offer overviews and insights on a wide variety of topics. Consequently he has been asked to deliver keynote addresses and lectures on peak oil, community energy, Scotland’s environment, the Media’s perceptions of Africa and How to Listen - the last delivered to a group of senior medical consultants.
